The Definitive Guide to Living in the Capital , Cairo , Egypt

Organised by The National Cinema Center, the Hanager Cinema hosts its Palestinian Film Week. Featuring four movies expressing the Palestinian struggle and resistance, and symposiums featuring some of the most talented directors behind the movies being screened, the Palestinian Film Week screenings which began on December 3rd, will run until the 8th of December.

Featuring a wide range of movies inclusive of all genres, Palestinian Film Week kicked off with the screening of the feature-length documentary film From Under the Ruins. The screening was followed by a panel discussion with which the director of photography, Dr. Mohamed Shafik, and director Tariq Yakhlef; moderated by film critic Issam Zakaria.

Following the first screening of Under The Ruins and the opening ceremony, Maan Samara’s film Shireen Abu Aqlah was screened on Monday, December 4th. The movie is an account of the life of renowned journalist Shireen Abu Aqlah and celebrates her memory.

Taking place on Tuesday, December 5th is the screening of the feature documentary film Racism, directed by Fayek Jarada, followed by a symposium moderated by film critic, Osama Abdel Fattah, in the presence of director Fayek Jarada. The panel will discuss the behind-the-scenes of filming in hopes of raising awareness about ongoing events in Palestine.

Next on the schedule, Kareem Free will be screened on Wednesday, December 6th. The movie is directed by Khalil Gibran, and the screening will be followed by yet another symposium moderated by film critic, Islam Ahmed Ali, and hosting director of photography Saeed Al-Shimi.

On Thursday, December 7th, the feature film Gaza Mon Amour will be screened, followed by a symposium moderated by film critic, Shahinda Muhammad, and hosting the critically acclaimed film’s
director Hala Jalal.

The Palestinian Film Week will come to an end on the 8th of December with the screening of The Tower,
an animated feature directed by Mats Grorud, and a symposium moderated by film critic Ahmed Saad
El-Din, and animation artist Dr. Moataz Al-Shehri. This event is a celebration of the Palestinian identity and a cultural and artistic week for all cinema enthusiasts. Combining movie screenings and heart-to-heart discussions with artists and directors behind these films, The Palestinian Film Week
