Martin Sählhof Lecture at Netherlands-Flemish Institute

Since 2006, the German Archaeological Institute has been conducting excavations
at the royal tomb complex of King Djer at the early dynastic necropolis
of Umm El Qa’ab, Abydos. The burial chamber of the first dynasty’s King is
surrounded by more than 300 subsidiary tombs dating from the same
period, as well as what is believed to be the Tomb of Osiris from the Middle Kingdom.
This lecture will give an overview of the fieldwork and their latest findings.
