‘In Search of Oil & Sand’ Screening at Netherlands-Flemish Institute

‘In Search of Oil and Sand’ (2012) is a documentary that follows Mahmoud Sabit, finder of the original 8mm reels of the 1952 film, ‘Oil and Sand’ – which tells the story of a coup d’etat made by members of the Egyptian royal family – as he reconstructs the film’s story, exploring the political environment that surrounded it. Interestingly, the original film not only managed to predict the fate of the King, but also foresaw the next 60 years of relations between Egypt and the West. Arabic with English subtitles. A Q&A will follow.
