Egyptian history is like an open book that doesn’t have a definitive ending. Why? Because constantly, the government discovers endless new antiquities, thus adding supplementary chapters to the pages of Egyptian history. Today’s episode is entitled, “The Recent Discovery of the Ruins of the Ptolemy IV Temple”.

Just yesterday, many news sources, including Egypt Today, were posting about a significant find in Kom Shakau Village, Northern Sohag, while drilling a sewage drainage project there. They found an ancient Egyptian temple, belonging to the fourth Pharaoh of Ptolemaic Egypt, who reigned between 221 to 204 BC. His full name was Ptolemy IV Philopator, and the decline of the Ptolemaic dynasty is said to have started during his rule.

Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mostafa Waziri, stated that the discovered ruins encompassed parts of the temple’s walls, limestone walls and floors, as well as engravings with the pharaoh’s name. Currently, an archaeological mission is now in charge of rescuing the remaining artefacts. In addition, the Head of the Central Administration for Antiquities of Upper Egypt, Mohamed Abdel Badie, clarified that the southwestern corner of the temple was found in one of the side streets, according to SadaElbalad English (SEE).

Be sure to brush up on your Egyptian history, and read more about the temple of Ptolemy IV on Tour Egypt, where they discuss its advanced architectural design and structure.
