Jeita Grotto
Jeita Grotto is a popular tourist attraction located just north of Beirut. It is a system of interconnected limestone caves that showcase stunning natural formations and underground rivers. The grotto is divided into two main sections: the upper gallery and the lower gallery.
The upper gallery is accessible by foot and features a series of walkways and paths, allowing visitors to admire the impressive stalactites and stalagmites. It also offers a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape.
The lower gallery, on the other hand, is explored by boat. Visitors board small boats and glide along an underground river surrounded by magnificent limestone formations. The boat ride takes visitors through a series of chambers, including the awe-inspiring Crystal Gallery, which is adorned with sparkling white features. Jeita Grotto is known for its natural beauty and is often regarded as one of the most beautiful caves in the world. It has been a popular tourist destination in Lebanon for many years, attracting both locals and international visitors.
The Téléphérique
The Téléphérique, also known as the Beirut Cable Car, is a popular tourist attraction in Beirut. It is a cable car system that provides a scenic ride from the city’s waterfront area, near the Corniche, to the hilltop neighbourhood of Harissa. The Téléphérique offers visitors a unique and panoramic view of the city, the coastline, and the surrounding mountains. The journey takes approximately nine minutes, covering a distance of about 1.5 kilometres (0.9 miles).
Harissa and “Our Lady of Lebanon”
At the top of the Téléphérique, in Harissa, visitors can explore the iconic “Our Lady of Lebanon” statue and the associated pilgrimage site. The figure is a significant religious and cultural landmark, overlooking the city of Beirut and the bay. The statue is surrounded by a spiral staircase leading up to the top so those who desire can climb up, pray, and even touch our Lady of Lebanon. Inside the church premises is a souvenir shop so you can remember your visit.
Due to the economic crisis and inflation, prices for everything in Lebanon are in US dollars, but its equivalent in Lebanese lira is also accepted.
