Having been
to Max’s outlets in other Arab countries, this reviewer could hardly wait for
its launch in Egypt. Offering cheap basics with an average quality, we hoped
the brand’s outlets in Egypt would live up to our expectations. Sadly, it
didn’t.
Once we
stepped inside the shop’s branch in Wonderland Mall in Nasr City, we were taken
aback by the flashy and over-the-top clothing.
We like to keep
our outfits simple, but Max’s clothing is anything but simple. From the brightly
coloured accessories to the glittery outfits, we knew we wouldn’t find what we were
looking for.
To the left
side of the shop, you’ll find the footwear and bags section. Our eyes first
fell on a pair of bright neon ballet flats for 70LE. It would be quite a risk to
wear such a colour on Cairo’s streets. We also found knock-off Converse
sneakers for 80LE. For 35LE, a pair of summery flip-flops are not
completely stylish but wearable. Three pairs of thick ankle socks will set you
back 35LE.
As you move
forward into the shop, you can find the men’s section. Shirts, shorts, belts
and blazers; you name it, they’ve got it. Dress shirts are available for as little as
45LE. Knee-length cargo shorts are also on offer for 94LE. Polo shirts are also
available for 29LE.
The women’s
wear section needs at least two hours for thorough browsing. Although at first
glance it did seem that all items are way too colourful or glittery for this
reviewer’s taste, we managed to find a few items here and there that stick to
the simpler side of things. For example, the orange and beige striped
t-shirt was a bargain at 59LE.
Another good
buy was the white maxi linen skirt (109LE). Polka-dotted and striped shirts are
also available for 36LE. An adorable yet simple brown skirt sells for 115LE.
As for the excessively
colourful designs, a pair of white leggings with blue and green roses costs
51LE. Another example is the bright yellow knee-length dress with purple, green
and grey flowers.
Max also has
a section for sleepwear and lingerie. Although they are not as simple in style
as this reviewer would like, they are better than other items offered in the shop. Cute
sets of pyjamas start at 69LE, while cosy purple cotton trousers cost 18LE.
The
over-the-top trend continues with Max’s accessories. A faux pearl necklace with
a big pink rose will set you back 75LE, while a pair of fuchsia and golden dangly
earrings sell for 35LE.
If you fancy
doing a bit of shopping for your little ones, Max has one full floor dedicated to
kids wear and accessories, including Disney-themed school bags for 139LE.
