It must be
a girl thing; but we love dresses. When we know there’s a party coming up,
only one question comes to mind; what am I going to wear? An upcoming event is
always a very good excuse to buy a new dress. Other good excuses include a new
job, having a bad day, having a good day or accomplishing something truly terrific like
finally cleaning up the dishes after two weeks.
Despite there being about three
million clothing shops in Cairo, it’s still very difficult to find a dress
in this city. Thankfully, our prayers were answered when Karen Millen opened in Cairo; it’s a haven for dresses, shoes, tops, bags and accessories.
Karen
Millen is located in Citystars’ Phase 2 just behind Zara and next to bridal
dress paradise Pronovias. It’s a relatively small shop compared to other
giants in Citystars, but there is a large collection available. It is important to mention that Karen Millen Egypt usually has the same collection as its
counterparts in Europe and America and is rarely one season behind. Karen
Millen’s collection runs from casual clothing to party and evening dresses. Whatever the event, Karen Millen has an outfit for you.
What’s significant
about the collection is that most items match each other, which immediately
solves problems such what kind of shoes or coat to wear with the dress of your
choice. Karen Millen is known for using bright colours in its designs and
patterns. If you are looking for a
fluorescent yellow dress, chances are Karen Millen has it.
The brand’s most
beautiful designs are the classic cocktail dresses, and of course every season
has a new little black dress. This spring 2011 season’s collection has a lot of
floral prints, draped necklines and lace. The quality of the clothing is very
high, and so are the prices. Karen Millen uses cotton and silk for most of its designs;
however, some items are made with polyester or viscose. Sizes range from a UK
size 6 to a UK size 16.
The brand’s
basic items like tops and t-shirts are the least interesting pieces, though
their jeans are very well-cut and very durable. Expect to dig deep down into your
purse, because Karen Millen doesn’t come cheap. It is almost impossible to find
anything in this shop for under 1000LE: simple shirts and tailored dresses can
reach 2500LE, while the more elaborate evening gowns and party dresses can
reach 4500LE. The staff at Karen Millen is
very friendly, helpful and not pushy at all, and fitting rooms are spacious and
clean.
Karen
Millen is a safe bet when you are looking for a dress but once again, it comes
with a hefty price tag.
