Originally known as “Bodique,” Hunkemoller first introduced its collections in Citystars a few years back. Changing its brand name and securing itself a place in New Cairo’s busiest shopping complex, Hunkenmoller tries to hold its own amongst the abundance of international lingerie brands competing in the Egyptian shopping scene.
Limited on space, the store is easy to get around, allowing shoppers to view all the items it has to offer in one quick go. A couple of smiling sales personnel greeted us, and spoke to us briefly about the rebranding. They told us to ask for their assistance whenever we needed any.
The first display which caught our attention was the sportswear one, offering a handful of sports essentials. We spotted a black and pink sports bra (495LE), black yoga pants (236LE) and a matching jacket (375LE).
Moving on to the next display, we found ourselves looking at the swimwear collection, which only included bikinis with excessive embellishments and prints that were a little too loud for our taste; the likes of a hot pink bandeau studded bikini top (235LE) and bottom (150LE). The beach cover-ups were no less simplistic, boasting designs that were a little on the tacky side- we spotted a blue, white and red tribal one (395LE).
Strolling over to the lingerie displays, our eyes saw nothing but intense colours and excessive use of lace, throwing the chances of any practical lingerie out the window. We came across a deep purple bra adorned with black lace (315LE). During the time of our visit, there was a 3-for-2 offer on briefs (72LE each).
In the middle of the store is a display of pajamas, which were, in contrast to the swimsuits and lingerie, on the simple side. We spotted a white and orange short sleeve top (181LE) and its matching cut-off bottoms (264LE).
In a nutshell, Hunkenmoller’s lingerie and swimwear are definitely for those looking for more out there designs that are, at the end of the day, not practical everyday choices. The sportwear collection, despite being limited in variety, was, however, a lot more wearable. The staff, on a final note, were equal parts friendly and professional.
