A warm, soft bun plus a delicious savoury filling equals a happy stomach. For those who still haven’t had the chance to sink their teeth into the pillowy goodness of a bao bun, bao is a light and fluffy food that traditionally consists of a white dough with a filling of choice that is then steamed to perfection. Originating in China, this food has made its way to Egypt with several new restaurants specialising in the art of the bao bun. The people of Cairo still just can’t seem to get their hands on enough Asian cuisine. So, here are four restaurants to get your bao bun fix:

Baogr @baogr.eg

At this restaurant, they specialise in all things bao. Their location in Heliopolis is right next to Yokozuna, meaning you can spend the perfect night out getting some delicious boba after your bao burger. Baogr also recently opened a new branch in Downtown Katameya in New Cairo. Their menu has a variety of different beef burgers and chicken sandwiches alongside options like teriyaki mushroom and duck fillings. Baogr even offers some dessert options, and you guessed it, they’re served in a bao bun.

BĀO & T @baoandt.eg

BĀO & T have gone one step further and brought your bao buns and bubble tea together in one place. Are we in heaven? From juicy buttermilk chicken to dynamite shrimp and crispy beef, their signature creations are guaranteed to get your mouth watering. It’s hard to stop at just one when the buns are this good. Find them at the Lakehouse in New Cairo and The Knowledge Hub.

Don Eatery @don.eatery

The viral sensation, Don Eatery in 5A by the Waterway, has yet to disappoint with the taste and quality of its Asian street food. Their bao flavours include chilli shrimp, pulled beef, chicken katsu, and duck confit. The bun that melts in your mouth is complemented perfectly by the flavorful fillings. So if you want to hop on the trend, Don Eatery is the perfect place to start.

Nairu @nairurestaurantandlounge

For a more upscale dining experience, Nairu Restaurant and Lounge by the Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at The First Residence offers a variety of delectable Asian cuisine accompanied by panoramic views of the Nile. You can enjoy dinner on the First Nile Boat with Cantonese, Indian, Japanese, and Thai options available, and it is absolutely a must to try out their bao buns. Their Beef Bao Buns are a signature dish filled with soy-lemongrass, short ribs, and chilli pickles.
