Currently, Asian cuisine is taking the city by storm. It’s a bit of a challenge to keep up with all the Asian restaurants sprouting up, but we’re more than willing to take on the challenge! With this in mind, we decided to try out the newly opened Asian restaurant, Tama, within the newly opened U Venues in New Cairo.

Recently opened right next to 5A by The Waterway and The Drive, finding a parking spot to visit Tama in U Venues does not present any issues whatsoever. Whether in the street with their valets (yes, you’ll need to pay them) right in front of the mall or in their underground parking, your usual much-hated and dreaded quest for a parking spot will be more of a smooth sail, starting your outing on the right note.

We entered Tama with high preconceived expectations. As we were cordially welcomed by the staff’s warm smiles and greetings, our expectations increased; who doesn’t love a hospitable, homely environment? There was no stopping our hopes with the warm, feel-good lights and heartwarming anime-style artworks, specifically of cats, adorning the place and embracing us. Pair that with the hugging couches we chose to sit on, and we felt like we found ourselves the perfect match; it was more akin to being taken on a trip inside an anime film. Pretty magical, right?

Their menu features an array of Asian specialities, from sushi and noodles to fried rice and dumplings. In essence, they have all the beloved Asian meals you could possibly think of. Nothing too different from the ordinary Asian restaurant menu in the capital, but you gotta love the classics anyway!

The debut of our food-centric hangout was their Kimchi Fries (150 EGP), which we honestly had mixed feelings about. While the fries were a bit soft, leaving the impression that they were not totally fresh, however, the cheese topping and chilli-boosted kimchi side gave the fries a delicious kick. Based on our server’s recommendation, we decided to give their Chicken Karaage with a side of Fried Rice (330 EGP) a try, and it immediately raised our expectations again; it quickly earned the “top dish” award in our hearts! A Japanese fried chicken perfectly marinated in soy sauce and ginger, their Chicken Karaage is the textbook definition of a moreish dish.

Feeling their seafood dishes calling to us, we settled on trying their Fried Shrimp Bao Buns (150 EGP) just to get an insight into their seafood quality. Our taste buds were utterly grateful for the soft and puffy dough of the buns, and while the Fried Shrimp could have used more marination and flavour, the crispy feel of the breading created a unique convergence with the dough.

For those mindful of their budget, Tama Asian Fusion is a wallet-friendly choice. With most dishes priced from 150 EGP to 500 EGP, this restaurant offers a cost-effective way to enjoy a variety of Asian delicacies. Considering its unique anime-inspired ambience, diverse menu, and affordable prices, Tama Asian Fusion is recommended for a casual and enjoyable dining experience with friends.
