Cairo Bites 2017: Egypt’s Biggest Food Showcase Returns!

Let’s kick this off with some Cairo 360 insider info – the restaurant section is among the most visited of all on the definitive guide to living in the capital. It speaks loudly of Cairnene’s collective love for food – seriously, we just love to eat.

It’s this spirit that created the extravaganza of food, drink and entertainment that is Cairo Bites back in 2014, when the biggest names in food came together at the beautiful Baron Palace. Three years on, Cairo Bites has grown into one of the biggest dates on every foodie’s calendar – and this year’s edition is stepping things up several notches, too.

Taking place on May 5th and 6th at Cairo Festival City, Cairo Bites is aiming to continue being much more than just a collection of food stands; in fact, deep at the core of its very premise is the idea that food is culture – and few countries encompass that idea than Egypt, where the gastronomical landscape is as varied and eclectic as Egypt’s actual landscape.

It feeds perfectly into this year’s theme, Taste of Egypt, and there will be various corners representing various parts of Egypt. What this melting pot of culturally significant food and drink amounts to is two days of entertainment courtesy of the likes of local band, Ayamna El 7elwa, and a packed and stacked roster of the biggest names on the local and regional food scene on the CBC Sofra stage, including Chef Sherbini, taking on a special cooking challenge.

Far from a pretentious foodie-type event, though, Cairo Bites offers something for all the family, with this year’s kids’ stage also set offer plenty in the way of entertainment for the little ones.

And then, of course, there are the tens of mouthwatering restaurants, cafes, bakeries and other food vendors that will attend with their best dishes tow. Think of it as a gigantic buffet, where you’ll find everything and anything – whether you’re a health freak, fast-food fiend or one that likes to appreciate the gourmet things in life, you’ll find the likes of Lemony’s Cheescakes, Bab Toma, Mr Wok, Chef in a Box and more.

For more information, check out Cairo Bites on Facebook and Instagram, or the official website.
