Whether you’re looking for a chilled Friday brunch spot or a coffee joint to give you a caffeine fix over the weekend, Sheikh Zayed is filled with cafes and restaurants to cater to that. What we don’t see an abundance of, unfortunately, are pet-friendly places. In fact, if you’re planning the perfect day out with your four-legged friend, then Cairo can be a very hard place to look. However, when it comes to dog-friendly cafes, Beanstalk is one of the very few you can find in Sheikh Zayed, and that’s why it created a pretty good buzz being the new hot spot for breakfasts and evening delights with our furry friends.
We made our way to Eden Mall right next to the Al Guezira compound in a quiet area in Sheikh Zayed. Beanstalk has a spacious outdoor space perfect for pets to hang out on a leash. We went there with our dog to get the full-on experience on a Friday morning to try their breakfast options. The menu seemed quite direct–it had all the international breakfast items we all know and love, from the club sandwich and omelettes to the American-style breakfast and eggs benedict. We decided to start with one Mango Banana Kiwi Juice (50 LE) – which our dogs split in the first five minutes; however, it was flavoursome from what we tasted, so we ordered another one. We then decided to get one salad as a starter to our breakfast meals; we got the Quinoa Salad (100 LE) – red quinoa, avocado, pineapple, and mixed greens. The salad arrived swiftly and well presented. The flavours meshed well together, and the vinaigrette was refreshing, zesty, and bright.
We decided to try their Salmon Benedict (120 LE) for our first breakfast order – smoked salmon topped with two eggs with hollandaise sauce sided with mushrooms, potatoes, and mixed leaves. The eggs were picture-perfect, and the creamy hollandaise was rich yet light – the perfect combination indeed. The sauteed mushrooms were tasty; conversely, the potatoes were a bit overcooked and too charred to our liking. We had also ordered the American Breakfast (145 LE) – omelette with a side of hot dog, potatoes, mushrooms, and french toast. This dish was also very
We wanted to try one of their desserts, but their plates were rather sizable, and we were already full. Beanstalk proved to be an excellent value for money spot, and being pet-friendly makes it all the better. Of course, if other dogs are present and they do not get along with yours, that might be a bit of a problem, but other than that, the experience was easy and enjoyable.
