Journeying through a palpable, ongoing trauma filled with lingering memories and rollercoasters of emotions, Palestinians are still struggling with the brutal aggression against them. Paired with all the anger and pain they feel, there is still the disappointment with some artists’ responses to the carnage when they could potentially use their voice and platform to at least raise more awareness.

Other artists, however, are driven by this strong sense of responsibility toward advocating for justice and helping everyone stand on the right side of history. While these artists cannot “lift the injustice” themselves, they have created art to help raise more awareness.

So, today, we bring you some of the songs dedicated to Palestine that you need to listen to and support right now.

Ethel Cain’s From the River

An American singer-songwriter and record producer, Ethel Cain is one of the artists who put their voices to good use amidst the war on Gaza. It’s a shame that there isn’t more coverage of her song From the River, a beautiful, poignant piece with a hazy ambience dedicated to Palestine. Cain took to social media to explain that this song is a “prayer for [Palestinians].” It can only be streamed on SoundCloud, though.

Kofia’s Leve Palestina

Leve Palestina, an old Swedish song from the 1970s, has been serving as a gateway for the world to understand the Palestinian struggle. Ever since it was released in the 1970s, it has been used as a rallying anthem for Palestinians.

Kehlani’s Next 2 U

Still from Next 2 U

While the song itself may not be about Palestine per se (though it could be interpreted that way), the music video of Next 2 U is one of the most powerful messages about Palestine. The video starts with the protest slogan “Long Live the Intifada”. Throughout the video, Kehlani and the dancers also wear the Palestinian keffiyeh.

Macklemore’s Hind’s Hall

A protest song by the American rapper Macklemore, Hind’s Hall is a reference to Hind Rajab, a six-year-old Palestinian brutally killed by Israel. This song certainly made waves for a lot of people; it’s been described as “rare,” “unexpected,” and “electrifying,” among other descriptions.

Seth Staton Watkins’ Oh Palestine, Oh Palestine

Seth Staton Watkins, an American singer, used his art in December 2023 to raise awareness about the whole history of Palestine. Frankly, this has to be one of the BEST ways to teach people the reality of it all.

Daboor and Shabjdeed’s Inn Ann

Still from Inn Ann

Daboor and Shabjdeed’s musical talent, not to mention commitment, is like no other. For the past few months (and even years), they have been using their music to send powerful messages. Resonating with many Palestinians, Inn Ann is creative, poignant, and expressive.

Saint Levant’s From Gaza, With Love

Saint Levant is a Palestinian rapper born in Jerusalem and spent his childhood in the Gaza Strip. This year, he released From Gaza, With Love, a song dedicated to the ongoing war.

MC Abdul’s Palestine Gaza City

We definitely could not leave this one out of the list; MC Abdul is a 15-year-old boy from Gaza, and the music video of Palestine Gaza City is one of the most moving music videos this world has ever witnessed.
