The Cairo Jazz Festival (CJF) 2024 promises an exciting blend of jazz performances, workshops, film screenings, and panel discussions. Running from October 31 to November 8, 2024, this annual event has established itself as one of the key cultural festivals in Egypt, drawing in local talent and international artists alike. Hosted across several iconic venues, including the Tahrir Cultural Center (AUC), Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and Misr Public Library, the festival will immerse audiences in the world of jazz through diverse performances and cultural activities.

A Rich Musical Experience

The CJF 2024 lineup features artists from all over the world, reflecting the universal appeal of jazz. Among the anticipated performances are:

Noha Fekry (Egypt) is a beloved local artist known for her jazz compositions. She will take the stage during the opening ceremony on October 31.

Ana Anderluh Trio (Austria) will be performing in Cairo, Alexandria, and Damanhur, and the trio promises to deliver an exciting musical journey.

Otooto (Denmark) and Lorenzo De Finti Quartet (Switzerland) are international acts that will offer distinct performances, merging classical jazz with contemporary improvisation.

Massar Egbari, the famous Egyptian band, will headline on the closing night at Ewart Hall, blending jazz with modern Egyptian rock.

Beyond the Music: Workshops and Discussions

CJF 2024 offers more than just performances. The festival includes workshops designed to engage musicians and enthusiasts alike. Highlights include a Contrabass Master Class by Jacopo Ferrazza and a session on blending jazz and rock by Lorenzo De Finti Quartet. These workshops at venues like the Goethe Institut and AUC provide unique opportunities to learn from international jazz experts.

For those looking to explore the world of jazz beyond the stage, the festival features panel discussions, including one on funding opportunities for music projects. Additionally, there will be film screenings, such as Samba & Jazz and Jazz in the Present Tense, offering a cinematic perspective on the genre’s impact.

Jazz for All Ages

The CJF includes a Jazzinino (Jazz for Kids) program at the Fountain Stage of AUC to introduce younger generations to jazz. This interactive and educational experience will engage children with live music and creative activities, nurturing the next generation of jazz enthusiasts.

Venues and Atmosphere

The festival will take place in some of Egypt’s most culturally rich locations. Ewart Hall at the American University in Cairo will host many of the main performances, while other events will unfold in the stunning spaces of Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Misr Public Library in Damanhur, and the Jesuit Cultural Centre in Alexandria. The blend of open-air venues and intimate concert halls offers attendees various ways to enjoy jazz in Cairo’s urban and historic landscapes.
