Travis Scott’s concert has been the talk of the town for weeks now, from its announcement to the viral video of the artist’s latest concert, where an Egyptian fan joined him on stage, up to the event’s possible cancellation and subsequent denial by his manager.
From the moment he announced he would be performing in Egypt, fans and followers alike have been eagerly anticipating the American rapper’s event. And with tickets selling out in mere hours, it’s clear that this is a show that people simply cannot miss! But it hasn’t been all smooth sailing – there have been rumours of possible cancellations due to interference from the Syndicate of Musical Professions. Despite this, excitement for the concert remains at an all-time high, and it’s sure to be an unforgettable experience for everyone lucky enough to attend!
Double the Trouble
Social media activists spoke out about Scott’s history of controversies over the years. It all started with Astroworld in November 2021, when the crowd overflowed with a staggering 50,000 people. Sadly, this resulted in a tragic incident, with ten concertgoers losing their lives, 25 hospitalised, and 300 others treated for injuries on the site.
Videos of the concert have been circulating, showing fans shouting for the show to stop, which many believe went unheard by the artist himself. There are also claims that the artist’s satanic beliefs have led him to perform rituals of sacrificing humans during his shows.
Moreover, Scott’s alleged Afrocentric beliefs caused outrage among some Egyptians, especially since the show was expected to be held in the Pyramids. This caused demands to cancel the show, with the fear of it turning out like Kevin Hart’s standup comedy show.
Stepping In
The Syndicate of Musical Professions issued a statement regarding the concert, stating that they are the ones responsible for issuing licences for holding musical and lyrical concerts in Egypt in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Culture. With that said, they stressed the need to put security considerations and approvals from the competent authorities as a top priority.
Upon extrapolating and surveying the opinions of the pioneers of social media networking sites, the Syndicate took the decision to cancel the license issued to hold Travis Scott’s concert. This was based on the pictures and documented rituals that are inconsistent with “our societal values and traditions” by Scott over the years.
Even though the party posters displayed the logos of both the Ministry of Tourism and the Tourism Promotion Authority as sponsors, the Ministry of Tourism stated that they had nothing to do with organising the concert. Explaining that officials of the Ministry of Culture informed them that the concert had not yet met the necessary approvals.
State of Confusion
In the midst of all that, someone decided to reach out to Scott’s manager for clarification of what was going on. To our surprise, he dismissed all the aforementioned claims that the concert had been cancelled. Instead, he confirmed that all these rumours were rather untrue! This makes us question… what is the final verdict?
Glass Half Full
While numerous social media activists are doing their best to cancel the concert, many others are fighting for its continuation, as Scott is one of the biggest stars in the world, which is expected to have a huge impact on Egypt’s tourism industry.
Egypt aims to reach 15 million tourists this year after their numbers recorded a boom in the first half of 2023 when they reached 7 million tourists compared to 11 million and 700 thousand tourists last year.
