Whatever sport you can think of, always expect that it will have an avid fanbase right here in Egypt. If you look back in time, history has proven that Egyptian fans really know how to celebrate and party when it comes to athletic victories, most recently with the U20 Handball National Team’s success in the IHF Men’s Junior World Championship. Now, there’s a chance that history will repeat itself before the month is over.
Today marks the first day of the 2019 Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) Volleyball Men’s World Cup. Twelve senior men’s national teams from all around the world will compete against each other in Japan, from the 1st to the 15th of October. It is worth adding that this is Japan’s twelfth consecutive time to host since 1977.
We were intrigued to see how Egypt is faring so far, so we checked the official website. To our predicted delight, the Pharaohs, under the leadership of their Dutch coach, Gido Vermeulen, are already off to a strong start. According to the rankings, Egypt is in the fifth place, following Brazil, Poland, Japan, and Russia, who are in first place. The teams have won one match, with three sets each, and Egypt has already scored a whopping 96 points so far, after their game with Australia. You can check out the highlights of the match right here:
The next contest is scheduled for tomorrow against Iran, before their matches with Brazil, Canada, Russia, Italy, Poland, Japan, Tunisia, Argentina, and the USA over the upcoming days. Come on Egypt; we’re rooting for you!
