Another week and another exciting list of new releases. This week we have a couple of inspiring true stories and some fictional ones that will get you in your heart and have you ready to start chasing your dreams. Also, we have two movies centred on criminals, con artists, and assassins. We think these might somehow inspire others (but, of course, we couldn’t encourage that). So without further ado, here’s this week’s list.
The Card Counter
Starting this week’s list is a drama/crime movie directed by Paul Schrader and starring Oscar Isaac. A gambler named William Tell, who has served eight years in prison and has some very odd behaviours, tries to escape the truth behind why he was imprisoned. The events of the movie slowly unravel the reason behind Tell’s imprisonment. A story of redemption and acceptance that you don’t want to miss.
The Ride
Not to be confused with the 1997 cowboy movie of the same name, The Ride is the true story of BMX champion John Buultjens. So get ready to cry your eyes out with this emotional yet inspiring story. After getting adopted by an interracial couple, John Buultjens struggles to cope with the changes and his harsh past that still haunts him. A real story that shows how genuine love can truly change a person.
Respect
The second inspiring story for this week is a biography of none other than the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin. Jennifer Hudson plays the role of Franklin and how she rose to fame and fought her way to the top from 10-year-old church choir singer to an R&B legend. The movie is already expected to win Hudson another Oscar for her outstanding performance.
Bennett’s War
Released back in 2021, this movie has finally made it to Egyptian theatres. Following his severe injury during the war in Afghanistan, veteran Marshall Bennett comes home to find out that his father is behind with his mortgage payments and in danger of losing the family farm. Risking the possibility of never walking again and being a natural motorcycle rider, Bennett decides to compete in a race to win the cash needed to keep the family farm.
Copshop
Frank Grillo, Gerard Butler, and Alexis Louder come together in this action movie that combines adventure and comedy. The con artist Teddy Murretto decides to hide from a hitman by getting himself arrested in a small town’s police station. However, when the assassin figures out his hiding spot, a young police officer finds herself in a sticky situation as she gets caught in the middle.
