Since we all know it’s Ramadan, the focus is usually on TV shows more than movies; even the word “movie” is not said during the holy month. That being said, this week we have two releases that will have us finishing our Iftar and heading straight to the movie theatre.
What’s it about? Macdonald (Matthew Modine) suffers a brain injury after attempting to rob a bank, he then develops amnesia and is put into a prison psychiatric ward. On his seventh year in evaluation, he is coerced by an inmate and a ward doctor (Ryan Guzman and Meadow Williams) to break out of prison. He gets injected with a serum that forces him to remember the life he’s forgotten and Sykes (Sylvester Stallone) hunts for Macdonald.
The good: Critics have applauded Matthew Modine for his outstanding performance.
The bad: It is said that the movie is underwritten, and the plot is underdeveloped.
What’s it about? Uglyville is a different yet adorable town, where everything and anything weird is celebrated; being strange is being special, and beauty is embraced. The free-spirited Moxy (Kelly Clarkson) and her Ugly Doll friends live every day in a whirlwind of bliss, letting their freak flags fly in a celebration of life and endless possibilities.
The good: The movie sends out a strong and positive message for kids.
The bad: The movie feels like a mashup of the Toy Story franchise, without the aspect of catering to adults as well as youngsters.
