This week in Cairo cinemas sees the release of one of the most anticipated films of the year: Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One. This week also sees the release of the cinematic adaptation of the classic children’s book Peter Rabbit, whilst Bruce Willis returns to star in the action film Acts of Violence, and Toby Kebbell stars in Hurricane Heist

Ready Player One

What’s it about? Steven Spielberg directs one of the most acclaimed fantasy adventure novels ever written. Ready Player One follows a young man as he ventures into the Oasis; a virtual reality created to escape the harsh futuristic dystopian world he inhabits, only to find that a shady organization is attempting to take control of the Oasis.

The good: The novel is written by acclaimed author Ernest Cline, and it is being adapted by the only director capable of creating the visual elements required to bring the massive slate of character appearances of the novel to life.

The bad: With great expectations comes great disappointments, especially for those who have read the novel.

Peter Rabbit

What’s it about? The adaptation of Beatrix Potter’s classic children’s novel about a mischievous rabbit trying to find his way to the carrot garden.

The good: The classic children novel is beloved by adults and kids alike. The film could potentially have the same memorable impact on youngsters and be remembered as an enjoyable family film.

The bad: Let’s put it this way, the author himself stated that he detests the film and could barely stand watching the trailer. Ouch.

Acts of Violence

What’s it About:  Die Hard star Bruce Willis stars in the new Action-Thriller  Acts of Violence. Willis plays a cop attempting to bring down an organization responsible for human trafficking.

The good: Bruce Willis is iconic when it comes to old school action films. Indeed, he has starred in some of the best action films of the past decade.

The bad: At this point, we’ve lost all hope in the films Bruce Willis stars in, since they’re all pretty much home to  the exact same shoot-em-up type nonsense.

Hurricane Heist

What’s it about: Toby Kebbell and Maggie Smith are staring in this action film, revolving around a heist on the US treasury during a category 5 hurricane.

The good: Director Rob Cohen, of the first ever Fast and Furious film, takes the helm; this promises a film with an original premise and, from the trailer, it seems like a fun watch.

The bad: Toby Kebbell, the British Actor, is sporting a Southern accent that is borderline awful, and Maggie Smith isn’t really known for her diverse acting skills.
