Part of the New Year’s joy is dedicated to spending time with your loved ones. There has to be a day when you grab your blankets, your popcorn, or even one of those delicious New Year’s Eve treats and your favourite New Year’s Eve movie.
A good part of New Year’s Eve is gathering around an activity that brings people together, and what better way to come together than with a good old New Year’s Eve movie!
Die Hard
This one is a bit unorthodox to be called a New Year’s Eve movie, but it is. In a nutshell, it’s about a policeman who visits his estranged wife and children for the holidays. He meets his wife at a holiday party but gets interrupted by a group of terrorists who attack the building.
This one is considered a New Year’s Eve movie for a number of reasons. First of which, the story takes place during the holiday season. There is also New Year’s Eve music playing in the background like let it snow and Winter Wonderland. Finally, it snows towards the end; a New Year’s Eve staple.
Home Alone
You can’t go about New Year’s Eve without watching home alone. Yes, it’s a Christmas movie, but it’s one of the main holiday season movies that’ll get you right in the mood.
For those who were living under a rock and didn’t grow up watching home alone, please watch it. As the name suggests, the movie is about a kid who was accidentally left alone at home while his family travels off for the holidays. Right when he thinks he’s won the lottery, he’s faced with two men who try and rob the house.
The Holiday
For those who like to watch a romantic comedy for New Year’s Eve, this one is perfectly predictable. The holiday; it’s about two women who after a bad breakup decide to switch houses and end up falling in love with locals, but they soon realize that their love story might become short-lived because they need to return to their homes.
Elf
If you want to have a good laugh and you love Will Farrell, this one is for you. Elf is also considered one of New Year’s Eve classics. It’s about Buddy, who was sent to the North Pole and grew up with elves for the entirety of his life. He goes back to New York City in search of his father in a full elf custom and a naive personality, and this is where the adventures start.
Let It Snow
This one is relatively new to the New Year’s Eve movie collection. Let it Snow, is a feel-good movie about a group of fresh high school graduates whose stories are simultaneously told and eventually coincide towards the end.
The thing about New Year’s Eve movies is that they don’t have to make sense. It’s the one excuse you have to watch a good, sappy movie whatever genre it may be. No one is judging you, happy watching!
