You may be thinking that water sports are limited to just the sea, but we’ve got endless opportunities right here in Cairo. Egypt isn’t known as the gift of the Nile for no reason after all. So thanks to our magnificent river and some man-made lakes, you can go crazy with all kinds of activities in the water without leaving Cairo. Here are some of the places you can go to make a splash before summer ends.

Cairow

If you’ve got one of the world’s longest rivers right next to you, why not take advantage? Cairow has locations in Maadi and Dokki and has become a hub for high performance sports and recreation in Egypt. Founded in 2019, this watersports academy is spreading the joy of rowing to members of the community with training on different levels of intensity and commitment as well as creating a community of people that you’ll love to get in the water with. Cairow also offers several other watersports including kayaking, windsurfing and stand up paddle. Visit their website to book a session now.

Boards and Boats

The latest addition to Mivida in New Cairo is the Lake District, and besides plenty of new restaurants, they’ve also built a sprawling artificial lake. For the first time, you can go kayaking in New Cairo thanks to Boards and Boats with their Mivida location. You can spend the afternoon paddling away on the lake, and then stop for some delicious dinner. An hour-long session costs LE 250 per person.

Windsurfing Station

Located right on the water in Dokki is Windsurfing Station. There’s no need to take a trip all the way to the sea, because you can find yourself surfing right here in the middle of the city. With the help of their professional coaches, you’ll be flying across the Nile in no time.

Ahimsa

This holistic wellness hub in Maadi gives guests the chance to connect with nature at their tranquil healing space right by the Nile. Ahimsa regularly offers weekly classes and workshops for yoga, meditation, art, dance and water sports. You can reserve a spot online for their kayaking sessions for LE 200, or try out their stand up paddle for LE 250.

Aquafit

If you really want to amp up your workout, try doing pushups while balancing on a water board. With Aquafit, you’ll train your muscles in a new and challenging way while improving your balance and flexibility. You can burn over 700 calories with their toning classes that still have a low impact on your joints. You can find Aquafit studios in Waterway and Swan Lake Compound in New Cairo.
