The Definitive Guide to Living in the Capital , Cairo , Egypt

If you hadn’t seen it with your own eyes, you probably wouldn’t have believed it. But low and behold, there was indeed a giant duck roaming across Cairo and Sahel for the better part of last week. It was all part of Mountain View’s True Essence of Summer campaign which invited beachgoers to reminisce about youth spent by the frolicking in sea and paddling in the pool.

Like some kind of hallucinogenic-flashback, all those whose eyes basked in all of El Batta’s yellow glory got on board with the fun campaign and the duck itself quickly became something of a social media celebrity – she’s basically an influencer. But what we do know about Egypt’s hottest new social starlet?

Well, there are rumours that she and fellow influencer, Mohamed Mekawwy, are the county’s newest celebrity couple. Here they are sharing a tender moment back in Cairo…

But then here she is moments later giving him the silent treatment because she doesn’t kiss in public. She’s just not that kind of duck.

Here she is with some star-struck fans in Sahel. They’ll be showing that photo to their grandchildren for years to come.

She’s basically BFFs with Sherif Makdour.

We also know that she loves nothing more than to start her day with a little swim – here she is working on her tan.

She likes to do a little night swimming, too…

She’s all the talk on TV,  too. Here she is being featured on Gaber el Armouti’s show, Akher El Nahar.

So meteoric is her rise, that she has become a role model for young ducklings cross Egypt.

She’s apparently a huge fan of Mahmoud El Esseily – as you can see in this video, where she’s hanging out behind the stage like a groupie.

Most importantly of all, like all the best influencers, she really knows her angles and how to look great in a photo…
