Modica Catering: Delivery-Based Business Worth Trying

We’ve heard a lot about Modica’s incredible catering, and we were super eager to try it. We were definitely happy to find out that they have a menu on Otlob.com that doesn’t require a +20 person event.

Modica offers a decent selection of appetisers, salads, sandwiches, pasta, and main dishes that all sounded so tempting to try. We ended up ordering Kofta Chicken Balls (65 LE), Lasagna (85 LE), Creamy Buttery Salmon Platter (210 LE), and a classic Fillet Mushroom Platter (180 LE).

As a delivery-based service, timing is everything. In this case, the delivery time mentioned on their page on Otlob was 60 min, which is acceptable for a homemade meal, but sadly the order came 40 minutes late, we’re not sure if it’s Otlob or Modica’s fault since Otlob is known for its super late deliveries.

Starting with the Kofta Chicken Balls, they were stuffed with cheddar cheese which was melted to perfection, and the texture of the chicken was fantastic, but the breading would’ve been better if it were crunchier.

As for the Salmon Platter, it was our favourite. The super tender and flaky salmon was swimming alongside mussels in creamy garlic lemon sauce with a beautiful touch of dill that lightened up the whole dish. For the sides, we picked mashed potatoes that had a smooth consistency and spot-on seasoning, and a good ol’ classic corn on the cob.

The lasagna, on the other hand, was very disappointing. It was extremely salty, the bolognese had zero tomato flavour to it, and for some reason, it was very watery. This dish didn’t match the quality of the rest of the order at all.

Moving to the Classic Beef Fillet, we think it’s the perfect dish if you’re craving homemade flavours. That being said, the beef was a bit dry, but we absolutely loved the extremely rich and creamy mushroom sauce. We ordered classic white rice and sautéed veggies to keep the homemade vibes, and the sides did not disappoint.

There’s not much of a choice aside from Torta Tres Leche (85LE) for dessert. This vanilla cake dessert was surrounded by a pool of sweet milk mixture to give it that pleasant (but not too soggy) soggy texture and topped with torched meringue. This was probably the biggest Torta Tres Leche we’ve ever had!

All in all, we enjoyed our very first experience with Modica. Despite the unacceptable 40 minutes late delivery, we loved the quality and the flavours of the food. It’s an excellent option if you’re looking for a good quality meal which feels homemade, and boasts excellent flavours.

Best Bit

The Salmon Platter and the Beef Fillet were fantastic!

Worst Bit

It took almost two hours to deliver a regular order. Also, that lasagna was unforgettably bad.
