More than two decades, five countries, and a career spanning everything from food and beverage to full-scale resort management have shaped Florian Gruhl’s journey with Hilton. Now, that journey is taking him back to Egypt’s Red Sea, as he steps into his new role as General Manager of Hilton Hurghada Plaza. Bringing extensive international hospitality experience and years of leadership within Hilton, Gruhl joins the Hurghada property with a clear focus: building on its existing foundations while strengthening the guest experience, supporting its team, and continuing to develop the resort’s position within the Red Sea market.
From Germany to the Middle East
Gruhl’s career with Hilton began in Germany, where he completed his apprenticeship at Hilton Bonn. What followed was a hospitality career spanning more than 20 years and several international markets. Through leadership positions across Germany, the UAE, Oman, Kuwait, and Egypt, he developed experience across food and beverage, resort operations, commercial performance, and executive hotel management. That journey has also given Gruhl an understanding of different markets, teams, and guest expectations, experience he now brings to his new role in Hurghada.
Eight Years at Hilton Luxor Resort & Spa
Before making the move to the Red Sea, Gruhl served as General Manager of Hilton Luxor Resort & Spa, a role he held from 2018. During his time in Luxor, his leadership focused on business performance alongside the guest experience and team development, while further strengthening the resort’s hospitality offering. His work has also extended beyond day-to-day hotel operations. Throughout his career, Gruhl has focused on mentoring future hospitality leaders, supporting diversity and inclusion initiatives, engaging with local communities, and advancing environmental, social, and governance performance within hotel operations.
A Leadership Approach Centred on People
For Gruhl, running a hotel is as much about the people behind the experience as it is about the business itself. His leadership philosophy centres on balancing commercial objectives with guest satisfaction and team engagement, while creating a collaborative and supportive workplace culture. That approach has earned him several recognitions throughout his career, including Hilton’s Connie Award, multiple Awards of Excellence, and the Most Engaged General Manager distinction, alongside international hospitality and wellness awards achieved during his tenure in Luxor. Gruhl has also taken part in Hilton’s Shine and GM Academy leadership development programmes, continuing to build on the experience accumulated throughout his career.
What Comes Next for Hilton Hurghada Plaza?
Now at Hilton Hurghada Plaza, Gruhl is turning his attention to the hotel’s next phase. Drawing on his experience in resort management and his long-standing knowledge of the Hilton brand, his priorities will include strengthening commercial performance, enhancing the overall guest journey, empowering team members, and continuing to develop the property’s dining, leisure, and hospitality experiences. For Gruhl, the move represents both a new leadership role and an opportunity to build on what the Hurghada property already offers.
“I am delighted to join the talented team at Hilton Hurghada Plaza and begin this exciting new chapter,” Gruhl said. Highlighting the property’s Red Sea location, facilities, and hospitality offering, he added that he looks forward to working alongside the team to build on the hotel’s success, enhance the guest experience, and further establish its position among Egypt’s resort destinations.
A New Chapter by the Red Sea
Gruhl’s appointment has also been welcomed by Hilton’s regional leadership. Alessandro Redaelli, VP Operations, North Africa & Levant, pointed to Gruhl’s operational experience, leadership skills, and focus on developing both people and guest experiences as key strengths he brings to the role. He added that Hilton expects Gruhl’s experience and vision to contribute to the property’s continued development and the success of its team.
For Hilton Hurghada Plaza, the appointment brings an experienced Hilton leader to the Red Sea property. For Gruhl, meanwhile, it marks the latest chapter in a hospitality career that began with an apprenticeship in Germany more than two decades ago and has since taken him across Europe and the Middle East. Now, that journey continues in Hurghada, with a new team, a new destination, and a new chapter to lead.
