Today marks the opening of the Gouna Film Festival, so some movie fanatics are getting ready to assume the status of official couch potatoes this weekend. But while you’re watching your favorite actors and actresses on the red carpet, the star-studded award ceremonies, and the highly-anticipated attendance of Aladdin himself, Mena Massoud, there’s always room to sneak out for a few fun events and activities. Check them out below!
Thursday brings you an artistic morning with the latest edition of My Favorite Things IV at the Mashrabia Gallery of Contemporary Art, which promotes and encourages female artists; the ‘Fountains of Light’ Exhibition at Picasso Gallery, presenting works by Mohamed Kamal; and the ‘Desert Visage’ Exhibition also at Picasso Gallery, by Wael Abed.
Moving on to the evening, enjoy some beautiful oud playing with Mario Said at El Sawy Culturewheel. Afterwards, pass by Cirque du Soleil Bazzar at Hyde Park New Cairo for their troupe of amazing international performers. Later on in the night, Cairo Jazz Club 610 hosts German DJ/Producer, Oliver Koletzki; French duo, Parallels; and DJ/Producer, Fulltone, for some local flavour. Finally, listen to some acoustic rock tunes with Tamer Emad, as well as pop and funk hits with DJs Funk OFF and MESKA at Cairo Jazz Club.
Friday includes a series of diverse events, from morning till afternoon. We start with ‘Art Your Wall’ Exhibition at Safarkhan Gallery by various artists, the First Annual Exhibition at Cairopolitan for visual arts enthusiasts, and Brunch Friday with Double Trouble’s classic rocks, while munching on your favourite foods at The Tap West.
When the night falls, gather your friends and family for an Improvised Games Night at Ideaspace for some entertaining night. ROOM Art Space New Cairo then invites you to a relaxing ‘Dine & Jazz’ night. Finally, we top it off with DJ Sary and his latest cool hits at OPIA Cairo, as well as a Rock ‘n’ Roll Costume Party; a tribute night to The King, Elvis Presley, at The Tap Maadi.
Saturday concludes our weekend with an action-packed day. After the morning’s World Wellness Open House Day at the Royal Maxim Palace Kempisnki, pass by the annual Cairo Flea Market, “Autumn Treasures”, at the Zamalek Fish Garden.
For musical entertainment, enjoy Zigzag’s musical fusion night at El Sawy Culturewheel and El Dor El Awal’s fresh tunes,with a broad variety of musical instruments, at Darb 1718. Don’t forget the Frank Sinatra Tribute night at El Sawy Culturewheel with The Sinatras and your favourite hits.
