Another busy weekend awaits across the capital, with events to suit all tastes awaiting – music, fashion, film, art and more.
We begin with a special Thursday night of music that will see some of the top bands and musicians take over the Cairo Jazz Club stage for a special John Morrison Tribute night, including Funk OFF, HanyMust and Shady Ahmed. Elsewhere, Maadi bar, the Tap, kicks off its weekend with DJ and producer, Klady, while Downtown’s Zigzag will be going till dawn with double dose of DJ duos in A-Squared and Gawdat.
Over at Johnny’s at Le Pacha 1901 West in Sheikh Zayed’s Arkan Mall, belly-dancer, Lahfa, is the main event at Massive Thursday, while Zamalek’s Gu Bar hosts DJ Lyon Avakian for this weekend’s edition of WKND and Heliopolis restobar, Hakamoro, welcomes Dr. K & Nii for a night of house music.
At the other end of the musical scale, the sounds of Port Said and Suez will be ringing through El Dammah Theater courtesy of El Tanbura, while Cairo Opera House’s staging of classic Verdi opera, il trovatore, continues.
Meanwhile, the 2015 edition of the Panorama of the European Film moves into its last few days, with the movie extravaganza set to come to a close on Saturday, while Darb 1718’s huge art project, Something Else continues with exhibitions, workshops, talks and more.
One of Friday’s biggest music events is set to take at Cairo Opera House, as the likes of Sahara, Uss We Lazq, Sharmoofers and Khayal take to the stage for the inaugural edition of Sound Stock Music Festival. Elsewhere during the day, the Greek Campus in Downtown Cairo is hosting the Jumbo Book Sale, while the Galleria40’s Winter Festival continues, with Cairokee set to perform this time round. The Christmas spirit is in the air at Swiss Club Cairo, meanwhile, as the Imbaba-located vnue holds its annual Christmas Bazaar. Meanwhile, Eat & Barrel’s weekly brunch, Eat to the Beat, is set to welcome DJs, Nader Tahawy and Omar Sherif.
Later in the evening, belly-dancing star, Amie Sultan, is in the spotlight at Hakamoro, while over in Maadi, the uber popular Like Jelly Perform.
Saturday, meanwhile, sees the Tap winds down its weekend with Hungarian duo, Cirkusz-KA, while Cairo Jazz Club does likewise with the Nubian-infused music of Basheer. Away from music, Zamalek gallery, the Shelter, holds special exhibition, Tokyo, which brings together the work of three Japanese photographers, while Nasr City’s Bikya is holding a Star Wars marathon.
Fashionistas will be out in full force, meanwhile, at Capital Business Park, as Bazarna launches Fashion TALK.
