Cairo 360
With the long Easter break behind us, those that were lucky enough to travel have been bitten by the summer bug as we count down the days till we can hightail it out of the city and make our way to the beach.
But the weather in Cairo is perfect right now and there’s too much to see and do across the capital to be bemoaning the lack of sun, sea and sand!
Thursday is typically busy across the city’s nightlife venues, starting with Cairo Jazz Club’s International Jazz Day special, which will see Armenian musician, Arthur Satyan, lead a night of music with other musicians from Egypt and beyond.
Elsewhere, dynamic DJ duo, Aguizi & Fahim kick the weekend off at the Garden Nile Front in Manial, while Downtown Cairo’s Zigzag welcomes Hassan Abou Alam and Abou Samra. Meanwhile, the Tap hosts regular and favourite, Man-O, with the versatile DJ leading a night of ‘Glitch & Funk', while the bar's sister venue in New Cairo welcomes rising duo, A-Squared.
At the other end of the musical scale, the National Arab Music Ensemble perform at Cairo Opera House and Forsan El Sharq take to the stage at El Gomhouria Theatre, while the Sakia Puppet Theatre immortalises the legendary Om Kolthoum with a special production.
Things start bright and early on Friday in Zamalek thanks to the Great Cairo Kidathon, with Omar Samra’s Muricata holding a day of fitness and fun, including several mini-marathons, post-run activities and a huge, exclusive gig by Cairokee.
A little later in the afternoon, Giza Nile-side lounge, Eat & Barrel, will be hoping for the good weather to continue as it welcomes back Baher for this week’s brunch-and-party event, Eat to the Beat, while the Garden Nile Front holds another of its Sunset parties.
Later in the evening, meanwhile, rambunctious band, Funk OFF, take to the stage at the Tap in Maadi, while Cairo Jazz Club hosts another edition of the Lab, this time featuring DJs Hafez and Abou Samra.
Elsewhere, Darb 1718 hosts a performance by unique, comedic, all-woman band, Bahgaga, while Claudio Curciotti and Jonathan Ribot’s new project, Electronic Wasla, is the evening’s entertainment at Zamalek’s 3elbt Alwan.
One of the biggest events of the weekend is set to take place on Saturday at Royal Club Mohamed-Aly, as Nacelle and Omar Khayyam team up for a huge day of music that will see the legendary Fathy Salama and versatile singer-songwriter, Dina El Wedidi, headline a day that will also see Dokkan, Genial and Mohamed Sadek take to the stage.
There’s more live music later in the evening, too, with guitarist and singer-songwriter, Rania Shaalan, performing at 3elbt Alwan, Ahmed Omar bringing is Afro-inspired sounds to Cairo Jazz Club, and Shady Ahmed winding down the weekend at the Tap.
For something decidedly more rowdy, this weekend’s edition of Heshek Beshek sees Zamalek’s Gu Bar, call on the talents of Essam Karika.
These are just a few of the events taking place across the capital this weekend – check out the Cairo 360 events calendar for more!
