The English language is quite a funny one. If you add a simple prefix, or even a letter before a word, the whole meaning changes. One example of such a word is “sports”; just add the letter “e”, and it introduces you to a completely different, yet equally exciting, fantasy world. Electronic sports (Esports) involves single or multiplayer video game competitions, particularly between professional “athletes”. And so, you can imagine how enthusiastic Egyptian gamers are for this week’s highly anticipated Esports Summit 2019!
For those who don’t know, the Esports summit is one of the largest events of its kind in the region. This year marks the second edition, after last year’s vastly successful debut event with more than 5,000 attendees and encouraging feedback. It was organised by Gamers Lounge, “the first Official Esports organisation in Egypt, with experienced members who want to develop gaming in the Middle East region”.
Not only did last year’s summit give gamers a valuable opportunity to compete against fresh new challenging players, thus helping them strengthen their weaknesses, the diversification of game genres was so extensive that participants remarked that the 1-day event wasn’t enough to enjoy all the various options.
And so, to maximise the experience and reach, this year’s Esports Summit 2019 will last day for three days, from the 26th to the 28th of September, at The Field in Maadi, for a total prize pool worth 350,000 EGP. The daily activities consist of main and side tournaments, as well as other activities, including 100 PC’s PUBG LAN Tournament, 1v1 FiFA Tournament, Red Alert, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Technology vendors will also be there, selling the latest gamer merchandise, and a Cosplay Show where you can see your fantasy characters come to life before your very eyes.
