For ten full days in Cairo, the lights, cameras, and glamour of the red carpet take the lead, signifying the arrival of the coveted Cairo International Film Festival. With the recent announcement of the dates of the 45th edition of the CIFF, here is everything we know about it so far!

 

Dates and Place

This edition of the CIFF, initially supposed to take place in 2023, was postponed until November 13th to November 22nd this year. At the Cairo Opera House, the CIFF will find a warm reception, embracing all our glamourous celebrities converging in celebration of the best of cinema.

 

President

With the iconic veteran actor Hussein Fahmy as the president of the festival, the line-up of the 45th edition of CIFF has been finalised. 

 

Artistic Director

Replacing filmmaker Amir Ramses, the previous artistic director of the CIFF, the brilliant film critic, researcher, and translator Essam Zakaria is to help set up this edition. With his experience as the head of the Ismailia International Film Festival for Documentaries and Shorts and as a film instructor at AUC, the 45th edition of the CIFF is expected to offer only the best of the best. 

 

Registration

For competing films, registration will be open from the 1st of May to the 1st of August through the official CIFF website, allowing ample time for filmmakers to submit their entries and for the selection committee to review them thoroughly.

 

Criteria for Competing Films

With a detailed list of specific criteria for competing films, the festival guarantees fair and accurate judgement of all the submissions. The criteria this year calls for movie submissions all exceeding 60 minutes, except short films, and released only after October 2023.
