The moment you step into Bascota, you are greeted by a warm, bohemian-inspired interior. Soft lighting complements the rustic decor, creating a space that feels both intimate and welcoming. The outdoor seating area, perfect for Cairo’s cooler months, offers a relaxed setting to soak in the winter sunshine. Whether you’re seeking a tranquil environment to escape the bustle or a sociable spot to catch up with friends, Bascota effortlessly caters to both.

Because the Spanish latte is a trending drink these days, we decided to start our experience with it, trying both the hot and cold versions. The Hot Spanish latte (EGP 90) quickly emerged as a standout. Its creamy richness and perfectly balanced flavours made it a delight to savour, with each sip delivering warmth and comfort that was especially appreciated in January’s crisp weather. Unfortunately, the cold version (EGP 90) didn’t quite meet the same standard. It lacked the bold, signature flavours one expects from the combination of coffee and condensed milk. For those seeking perfection in a cup, the hot Spanish latte is undoubtedly the way to go.
Next, we sampled the Matcha Frappe (EGP 120), a drink that can be difficult to get just right. Bascota’s version, however, was exceptional. The matcha, milk, and sugar were blended to perfection, resulting in a creamy, refreshing beverage with just the right amount of earthy sweetness. It was a harmonious balance of flavours that left a lasting impression.

Of course, no visit to Bascota would be complete without indulging in their freshly baked goods. The Chocolate Cake (EGP 155) was an immediate favourite. Its spongy, chocolate-chip-studded interior was wrapped in a rich, glossy chocolate spread that tasted as fresh as it looked. Each bite was a pleasurable experience, ideal for chocolate lovers.

The Cinnamon Cake (EGP 135) was another highlight, offering a delightful mix of flavours and textures. Fluffy and decadent with authentic cinnamon, it featured a generous layer of cream that softened the spice and added a touch of indulgence. It was the perfect blend of bold and sweet, crafted with care.

We couldn’t resist the Lemon Blueberry Scone (EGP 125), which struck the perfect balance between zesty and sweet. The buttery base was complemented by tangy lemon cream, while the juicy bursts of blueberry provided a touch of sweetness, creating a multi-layered flavour experience.

Finally, the Pistachio Cookie (EGP 100) brought our tasting journey to a satisfying conclusion. Crunchy on the outside and wonderfully gooey within, it was filled with pistachio pieces and topped with a delicate layer of cream and nuts. It was a creamy, nutty delight that we would gladly revisit.
Beyond EDNC, Bascota has another location at Garden 8. Wherever you choose to visit, you can expect the same cosy atmosphere and delightful offerings that have earned Bascota its well-deserved reputation as one of the city’s most charming cafés.
