The 54th Edition of the highly anticipated Cairo International Book Fair is back in 2023! Brought to us in conjunction with the Egyptian Publishers Union and the Arab Publishers Union, the fair is set to begin on January 24th and run until February 6th, 2023.
This event is the oldest book fair in the Arab world and has become a hub that attracts everyone across Egypt for two weeks. Over 1,000 publishing houses will be in attendance, and there will possibly be a lineup of more than 3,000 cultural events and recreational activities. The fair is also a great opportunity to network. This year, it is being held at the Egypt International Exhibitions Center in New Cairo, and you’re likely to find options in languages other than Arabic as well.
Also, the book fair committees are in the process of developing the cultural programme that will accompany the exhibition. Those lost in 2022, such as writers Bahaa Taher and Salah Fadl, are sure to be celebrated in this programme. The commission will likely hold a press conference to announce more details, such as the number of participating countries and information related to the guest of honour representing the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The slogan of the upcoming book fair is: “Egypt’s Identity… Culture and the Question of the Future.” The Supreme Committee of the Book Fair identified poet Salah Jahin as the character of the exhibition and announced that his complete poetic works would be printed. A wealth of publishing houses across Cairo will also be present, and you’re likely to find an incredible amount of options across all genres you could think of. To keep up to date with the programme and events happening at the book fair, make sure to follow their official Facebook page. The Arabic information packet can also be found here.
