After three consecutive years of the “Sard: Stories from Alexandria and the Delta” project visualising the stories of people throughout Egypt, Photopia unveiled the latest edition of the exhibition at the inaugural event of Alexandria Photo Week. The exhibition showcased a diverse collection of visually and audibly narrated stories about Alexandria and the Delta, with the photographers themselves presenting the tales. This immersive experience provided attendees with a wholesome vision of the narratives captured by the photographers.

The exhibition showcases visual stories from different photographers, providing unique perspectives on rural writers, families, travellers, forgotten places, solitude and depression, harvest, and women in agriculture. It’s an experience that sheds light on crucial topics through an artistic approach that’s sure to leave you in awe. The projects also delve into themes that will take you to the roots and origins of the experience in Alexandria and the Delta, showing the Egyptian cultural diversity when it comes to heritage, events, and sites through photographs of Ras El Bar markets, workers, Eid nights, famous and hidden celebrations, popular festivities in the Delta, trams, urban fabric changes in Alexandria and the Delta, closed factories, Ramadan events, pottery, and bricks.

Marwa Abu Leila, the founder and CEO of Photopia, highlighted that Sard: Alexandria and Delta Edition is an exceptional exhibition by all standards, featuring high-quality and diverse visual storytelling. The photographers have presented a range of compelling stories, some of which the audience will experience for the first time. Sard offers a rich documentary experience of northern Egypt, from rural areas to Alexandria and the North Coast, presenting a visual, textual, and auditory narrative of the diverse illustrated stories about the area, as captured and narrated by photographers from across Egypt.

The Sard: Stories from Alexandria and the Delta exhibitions will be held across three cultural venues: Basarya for the Arts from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm, 6 Bab Sharq from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and the French Cultural Center from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm. The “Sard Singles” exhibition will take place at the Giza Cultural Center, with public access from 11 am to 9 pm. There will also be meetings with the photographers on February 5th, 7th, and 9th at the Anna Lindh Foundation and the Giza Cultural Center.
