Pink Party for the Cure: Breast Cancer Zumba Day
A fun workout,
great instructors and fundraising for the Breast
Cancer Foundation of Egypt: is there a better way to burn calories and get
educated about your health?
’Make a move, make
a difference‘; so goes the motto of October 29th’s Zumbathon at El Sawy
Culturewheel in Zamalek. Instead of having a marathon, like ‘Walking for the Cure’ last year and the year
before, the BCFE is shaking it with five Zumba instructors this coming Saturday
from 10AM to 4PM. This year you will be joining
a fun and exhilarating Zumba marathon to help raise awareness about breast
cancer among women.
Emeline Lavender
and Jessy Larsen are two of the five Zumba instructors who will be leading you
in dance that day. After they approached the BCFE with the idea to collaborate on a way to raise funds for breast cancer awareness, ‘Pink Party for the
Cure’ was born. Lavender and Larsen proceeded to recruit the three
remaining instructors: Eli Branco, Denise Yvette and Egypt’s very own Samia
Allouba, and to organise the one day event.
The first of its
kind to take place in Cairo, ‘Pink Party for the Cure’ will feature a whole day of Zumba
dance routines and much more. Zumba, which is a Latin inspired dance
workout, is getting pretty popular in Cairo these days as it is a vigorous, fun and
energetic way to keep in shape and stay fit. The five instructors will be
giving different workouts throughout the six hours of the day, but, sorry guys; it’s ladies only.
Tickets for the day
are only 30 LE each and can be bought at several venues. All the
proceedings from the tickets will go straight to the BCFE to help the
organisation in its work to educate women about the condition and also offer
pathways for ‘awareness, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation’, as they say
on their website.
‘All of us know someone or
of someone who is fighting or has battled breast cancer. It is very
important for us to educate women as much as we can and help where we can’ says
Lavender about the event.
The Pink Party is not all
just fun and games, it is also an important day to get more women
informed about breast cancer, their health and methods of prevention. The BCFE
will be present all day offering information, and demonstrating how
easy it is to perform a self-examination to keep safe and healthy. Alongside
all of that, there will be pilates, yoga and your chance to get yourself a massage.
‘Zumba is a great
way to stay fit’, says Lavender, ‘I don’t think there is anything wrong
with us all having fun at the same time!’ The BCFE will also be offering free
mammograms for any woman over 40 attending that day.
So, no matter what age you
are, all you need is comfy sweats, workout shoes, water, towel,
and make sure you have a good sustaining breakfast, and you’ll ready to Zumba!
Check out the Facebook event page for more details. Feel free to post any questions you have; the instructors reply promptly.
