As many of us have probably seen the Ekhwaty series in Ramadan 2025, it’s important to recognise the creative forces behind its stunning choreography that brought mystical authenticity and nostalgia to the TV screens. These captivating dance moves were not random, as they were carefully practised routines crafted by the talented Pinky Selim. Pinky Selim is a professional choreographer and founder of the AUC Alumni Folklore. This organisation aims to revive and uphold the rich heritage of Egyptian folklore, drawing inspiration from the esteemed Reda Troupe.

Ekhwaty Series and Nostalgic Mentions of The Legendary Reda Troupe

The Reda Troupe is mentioned throughout the series as Naglaa’s former job and passion, which she returns to after Rabee’s death. This renowned choreography group specialises in the Egyptian folk dance style created by Mahmoud Reda and Farida Fahmy, initially inspired by the traditional folklore of Upper Egypt, rural, and coastal regions. As Naglaa rejoins her band, she takes us on a journey filled with euphoria and nostalgia through their performances of the Reda Troupe’s folklore.

Pinky Selim & The AUC Alumni Folklore

Driven by a passion for folk arts, particularly the celebrated Reda Troupe, Pinky Selim established the AUC Alumni Folklore in 2013 to honour and beautifully revive this art form and the rich Egyptian heritage it represents. The alums carry on this mission by hosting numerous public performances across Egypt and organising folklore workshops to teach these traditions to current and future generations. These workshops cater to beginners and advanced dancers looking to learn Egyptian folklore and are regularly updated on their Instagram page.

The Cultural Impact of Ekhwaty

Beyond being a heartwarming and entertaining series about love and familial bonds, Ekhwaty has drawn public attention to the heritage of Egyptian folklore choreography and performances. The Reda Troupe’s storyline, significantly supported by Pinky Selim and her group, has enhanced the public’s connection to our cultural heritage and traditional arts, evoking sentimental memories of the original Reda Troupe, which flourished during the 1960s. The AUC Alumni Folklore’s noble mission and enchanting dances contributed a magical touch to the series. They play a crucial role in preserving this authentic art as an integral part of Egyptian cultural heritage.
