The Definitive Guide to Living in the Capital , Cairo , Egypt

In every Egyptian household, there has to be at least one person who has heard of Egyptian writer, novelist, journalist, and editor, Ihsan Abdel Quddous. Born in 1919, his legacy lives in the film adaptations and series that are based on his literary works, which have been shown for many years and will continue to be shown for generations to come. With the passing of 100 years since the birth of this creative genius, Zawya Cinema saw it only fit to dedicate an event as a tribute to commemorate his life.

From the 18^th of October until the 1^st of November, the locally-famous venue will be showing a highly anticipated series of movies, the plots of which were the brainchild of the late legend. According to Al-Masry Al-Youm, selecting the films out of 600 drafted novels and over 40 short stories was no easy task. The final selection includes Emberatoreyat Meem (Empire M), Al Wasada Al Khaleya (The Empty Pillow), Ana Hurra (I am Free), Fee Baytena Ragol (There is a Man in our House), and selected others. The screening will start at 7 pm, and seminars will be held afterwards for general discussions. Rosa El Youssef, named after the writer’s mother, added that the programme is supported by Abdel Quddous’ family, Rotana, ART Network, the National Center for Cinema, and El Nasr Film Company.

No Egyptian figure is more deserving of such a prestigious tribute than Ihsan Abdel Quddous, a man who left a permanent mark in our nation’s heritage of literature and cinema. Click here for more information about the event.
