A group of 19 ambitious students from the English programme in the Public Relations and Advertising Department of Cairo University’s Faculty of Mass Communication has launched an inspiring graduation project called Dayma.
Dayma is a youth initiative that aims to address the pressing issues of food waste in Egypt by raising awareness among Egyptian society and finding applicable solutions for reducing it. This initiative will contribute significantly to Egypt 2030, especially the national food security efforts.
Dayma Supporting Egypt’s Vision 2030
Dayma aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030 by promoting sustainability and responsible consumption. The project raises awareness about food waste across various sectors, including households, restaurants, and hotels. By shedding light on the issue, Dayma aims to inspire individuals and businesses to adopt more sustainable habits, ultimately benefiting communities that struggle with food shortages.
Spreading Awareness by Innovative Educational Content
Dayma’s core strategy is providing interactive and engaging educational content. The initiative leverages social media and other digital platforms to share practical tips and techniques for reducing food waste. By encouraging sustainable practices, the project fosters a culture of responsibility and resourcefulness among the public. These tips range from efficiently calculating meals and the amount of ingredients to recycling leftovers into new dishes.
A Promising Start at the Student Forum
Dayma recently marked its first milestone by participating in the Second Student Forum for Sustainable Development at the Faculty of Mass Communication. This event, attended by representatives from the Environmental Affairs Agency at Egypt’s Ministry of Environment, was essential in amplifying the project’s mission and expanding its reach.
Future Aspirations for a Greener Egypt
Although still in its early stages, the Dayma team has big ambitions. They aim to extend their campaign’s impact by collaborating with various community entities and organisations. They have recently announced their partnership with Etoile. With more collaborations to come, their ultimate goal is to build a more sustainable future by reducing food waste and promoting environmental awareness on a broader scale.
Through their dedication and innovation, these students prove that small initiatives can lead to significant change. Dayma is set to drive Egypt’s sustainability movement, encouraging citizens to rethink their food consumption habits and work towards a greener, more responsible society.
