Taking over our FYPs and all the local gossip is Mo The Hangout Spot, Mohamed Helmy’s latest venture in New Cairo. Naturally, we had to see what all the fuss was about—and we weren’t disappointed.
From the moment we walked in, the vibe was exactly what we hoped for: effortlessly cool and perfect for casual hangouts! The outdoor space, strung with twinkling fairy lights, created an ideal setting for laid-back evenings, while the cleverly arranged seating made it perfect for groups of all sizes. The dim lighting and simple yet stylish decor added to the cosy, intimate feel.
Starting off with the loaded fries (EGP 150), we found them to be a crowd-pleaser—cheese sauce, minced meat, jalapeños, and red beans all in the mix. However, bean lovers might find them a bit underwhelming, as the beans didn’t quite stand out. But overall, the flavours worked together in a satisfying, comfort-food kind of way.
Next up, we delved into the main courses. With an array of choices spanning sandwiches, burgers, pasta, and more, we opted for the creamy lemon pasta (EGP 295), a zesty dish featuring grilled chicken and a light lemon sauce topped with parmesan. The pasta delivered just the right balance—tangy but not overpowering—and the garlic-infused chicken was cooked to perfection, sure to win over any garlic aficionado.
We finished off with the French toast, and let’s just say: cinnamon lovers, this one’s for you. This indulgent dessert, piled high with apples, ice cream, chocolate sauce, and crunchy nuts, was deliciously fluffy but heavy on the cinnamon. If you’re not big on the spice, it might not be your cup of tea, but for those who are, it’s a decadent treat.
Overall, Mo The Hangout Spot is a solid choice for a laid-back night out with friends. While the service could have been quicker—some of our dishes took a bit longer than expected—the complimentary dessert as an apology was a nice touch. If you’re in the New Cairo area and looking for a cool, chill spot to relax with decent food and drinks, Mo The Hangout Spot is definitely worth checking out.
