Yun’s Bakery: A Taste of Authentic Asian Desserts in El Rehab
asian cuisine Asian Food Boba bubble tea Iced Tea MochiEl Rehab City is an all-inclusive society where you can get almost anything you need without stepping out of its gates. Over the years, the Rehab market known as “El Souq” has expanded to include groceries, bakeries, restaurants, and other necessities such as tailors, pharmacies and vet clinics. In addition, the Eastern Souq opened to accommodate the rising number of Rehab residents and to include more unique and diverse cuisines.
Many Asian restaurants have opened across the Eastern Souq, bringing a taste of Asian cuisine across oceans. It has definitely been on the rise lately in Egypt, with many craving the taste of real authentic Asian food. In the heart of the Eastern Souq in Rehab, Yun’s Bakery offers a variety of authentic Asian delicacies. The viral bakery is known for its bubble tea, or boba tea, which comes in different flavours, as well as its refreshing iced teas.
Upon entering Yun’s Bakery, we were welcomed by a grand statue of a beverage that resembled the one we were about to enjoy. While an outdoor area is available for those who prefer the fresh air, the indoor space boasts a modern finish with marble tables and hanging light bulbs that create a comfortable and cosy atmosphere for enjoying your visit.
Since its success has been evident on social media, there was a bit of a queue, but it just goes to show that there’s something worth waiting for. The staff are friendly and accommodating and take the time to explain what boba tea is if you have never had one. They answer questions thoroughly and make recommendations if you are unsure or indecisive. Since we caught them in a rush, our order took a little over 30 minutes to be prepared and served. A staff member will usher you to sit at a table while your order is prepared.
We started with the Signature Boba flavour (LE 95), which you can have hot or cold. It isn’t super sweet and doesn’t seem to have added sugar. It tastes just like chilled tea with milk but with boba at the bottom. The boba was perfectly chewy and added a nice flavour to the drink; we only wished there was more of it per cup. If you are into the classics, we recommend the signature flavour; however, if you prefer drinks on the sweeter side, maybe skip this one.
After seeking recommendations from the staff, we settled on a delectable delight – the Strawberry Milk Boba Tea (LE 80), and we were glad we did! Infused with the perfect balance of strawberry milk and a dash of jasmine in black tea, this drink is perfectly balanced and hits the sweet spot. The strawberry boba milk tea will definitely have us coming back for seconds.
The last drink we tried was off their iced tea menu. It’s filled with a variety of tropical flavours and is an excellent alternative for those who don’t like boba. That option remains, though, as you can request the addition of boba to your iced tea for an extra fee. The passion fruit iced tea (LE 99) is served in a 700ml cup with pieces of passion fruit and lemon slices to add an extra twist to the already flavorful drink. It’s perfect for these hot summer days. With a refreshing, sweet taste and just the right amount of tanginess, it’s a tropical paradise in a cup!
Yun’s Bakery also offers a variety of fresh desserts and baked goods, but we were most excited to try their mochi. Mochi is a popular Asian dessert usually an ice cream-filled gelatinous sweet, but Yun’s offers this chewy dessert with a cream centre instead.
They had strawberry and mango flavours available, but we were inclined to try the strawberry (LE 60). The outside is smooth and stretchy, and when you rip it open, you’re hit with a sweet cream with bite-sized pieces of strawberries. It felt like eating a cloud. It was airy but rich and not overwhelmingly sweet like many desserts usually are.
Of course, we can’t forget about the live entertainment accompanying our treats! Being serenaded in three different languages by their resident musician made the whole experience even sweeter.
