Keki: New Breakfast and Brunch Menu With A Japanese Touch
Acai Bowl Breakfast Eggs Galleria40 japanese Keki Potato Salad Sheikh ZayedHaving proved itself in the Speciality Coffee scene, there is no doubt that Keki is a brand that is here to stay. Well-known for more than the ever-so-popular fluffy Japanese cheesecakes, Keki boasts a wide selection of Japanese baked goods and delicious pancakes. But when we heard that Keki extended their menu once more, offering breakfast and brunch items, we couldn’t help but go for another visit to their branch in Galleria40, Sheikh Zayed.
Asian-inspired food trends are taking over the Egyptian palette, and we are all for it. Therefore, trying conventional breakfast items with a hint of the Japanese delicate yet unique set of flavours seemed quite enticing, to say the least. We headed over to Galleria40 Mall on a fine wintery day around noon, as breakfast and brunch are served daily from 8 AM to 4 PM. We headed over to the cashier first and chose our beverages for the day; we got one Flat White (40 LE) – an espresso-based coffee drink with foamed milk, and one Royal Milk Tea (40 LE) – Iced tea with condensed milk. Both drinks were balanced and quick to arrive. The Royal Milk Tea resembles our conventional tea with milk; however, the addition of the condensed milk creates a very subtle sweet undertone that you don’t get with regular sugar.
We then ordered one Miso Scrambled Eggs (105 LE) – scrambled eggs with white miso paste in Keki croissant and topped with chives. Perhaps the best thing about this dish is that we got to choose the cook on the eggs, which was medium. Unfortunately, the croissant wasn’t available at the time, but the heavenly fluffy, creamy eggs made up for it. The hint of miso went great with the velvety, buttery texture of the eggs, and the salad served as a nice refreshing side. We also got one Japanese Potato Salad to share (60 LE) – cold mashed potatoes with shredded carrots and cucumber mixed with Japanese rice vinegar and sesame oil. The salad was a bit late to arrive as they were making it fresh, this resulted in a vibrant and bright taste, especially with the cucumbers, but it was served warm rather than cold – which was understandable given the time frame. However, the salad excelled; it had that famous Japanese sweetish undertone that made for an interesting bite.
Lastly, we decided to share one Acai Bowl (140 LE) – Puree of acai berries with banana and almond milk, topped with granola, seasonal fruits, and coconut flakes. This acai bowl was very Instagrammable, delicious, fruity, and sizable – perfect as a brunch item for spring and summer weather. All in all, our whole experience was, once more, a delightful one. The calm ambience, friendly staff, and unique selection make for a great meal, especially during the daytime when the weather is bright and sunny.
