Grocery shopping is an essential part of the week for any household. However, with global inflation, devaluation, and all other contributing factors, it can get quite pricey. Shopping locally is always a great option to avoid such a hassle and support locally grown food that is probably 10 times better than the ones you get at supermarkets, potentially filled with pesticides and hormones. So we saved you the effort of looking for local farms and listed a few of them for you!
Tabi3y
Founded back in the 1930s, Tabi3y farm was known as Abdelrahman Ali Pacha Farms and was responsible for providing all things agriculture to the royal family. Their crops were chemical-free, which is the inspiration behind the name. They decided to bring back their business and show off their heritage that was built on years of high-quality standards and a clean environment. Tabi3y sells a huge variety of products, from fruits and vegetables to dairy, poultry, and honey. You can check their website here.
Shahin’s Farm
Known for growing exotic fruits that aren’t readily available in Egypt, Shahin’s Farm sells papaya, dragon fruit, lychee, and sapodilla. However, they don’t just sell exotic fruit; they also have vegetables and natural honey. Shahin’s Farm is currently updating its website, so you can check the products on Instagram here.
Farm.155
This farm grows and sells microgreens; how unusual is that! Microgreens are harvested before they fully mature, and act as nutritional supplements and are under the category of superfoods. Farm.155 grows and sells microgreens like kale, radish and arugula. They only deliver to Maadi, but they’re working on expanding to other areas around Cairo. Check them out on Instagram here.
Bostan Set El Hosn
Established 15 years ago to raise awareness about healthier produce that is also within budget, Bostan Set El Hosn runs an all-inclusive farm that sells oils, dairy products, honey, jam, and fruit and vegetables. They also have a section of ready-made sauces and dressings like tahini, pasta sauce, tomato sauce, and so much more. Don’t forget to check their website here.
Makar
Makar Farms also counts as part of the older generation, around 1880, that was concerned with introducing vegetables and fruit that weren’t available and adapting them to the climate of Egypt. One of their ideas was to invert the season of crops grown in Europe; what is produced in summer abroad can be found during winter in Egypt! They sell vegetables, fruit and greenery like watercress, purple broccoli, and many colours of tomatoes. Check them out on their Instagram page here.
