Over 80% of the oceans across the world are yet to be explored, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that people develop a liking for exploring what lives underwater. Snorkelling hotspots across the world are usually favoured according to their friendly inhabitants and colourful coral reef gardens, and Lonely Planet has picked seven of them in a list that includes Egypt’s Abu Dabbab Bay in Marsa Alam.

Lonely Planet credited Abu Dabbab’s schools of parrotfish, angelfish, barracudas, stingrays, seahorses, and sea turtles as its main attraction. “In Abu Dabbab, the shallow waters, protective reefs and abundant seagrass attract and sustain a small population of dugongs – affectionately dubbed ‘sea cows’ because of their grass-eating habits,” mentioned the article, and that these rare dugongs are “lesser-known cousin[s]” of the manatee family.

Among the other locations were Baía do Sancho and Baía dos Porcos beaches in Fernando de Noronha on the northeast coast of Brazil, followed by the lagoons of Lady Elliot Island in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, and Hanauma Bay’s neon fish in Oahu, Hawaii. Indonesia, Mozambique, and Honduras filled the list with paradise-like sights that have us longing for a vacation. We bet you’d fancy one too!
