Plastic pollution is considered a global problem of massive proportions. The whole world is working on solutions; from countries, ministries, governmental and nonprofit organisation, everyone is ultimately concerned with cleaning up the earth’s water bodies. Recently, a bill was proposed in Egyptian Parliament calling for the complete ban of single-use plastic bags. Additionally, the Red Sea Governorate banned single-use plastic bags a few months ago.

With all this in mind, the Embassy of Denmark in Egypt, in collaboration with Greenish, along with the support of the Egyptian Ministry of Environment, recently organised the first Nile clean-up event for Danish companies, on Wednesday 12^th of June. The event came as part of Danish companies CSR’s efforts for creating a sustainable environment. The journey started with a cruise around the Nile, under the leadership of Ambassador Tomas Anker Christensen, joining forces with staff members, and seven Danish companies operating in Egypt – all members of the Danish Business Club Cairo. Later, the event was followed by workshops to help enable participants to become more environmentally aware, and have access to eco-friendly alternatives.

On a side note, there will be a series of clean-up events on the Nile and the Red and Mediterranean seas, that are set to start in July, aiming to engage the youth of five governorates in Egypt to have a positive impact on the environment and climate change. 

So there you go folks! Give it a second thought and start acting. Mother earth is in bad need of serious help. We need to work on combating this very urgent issue together!
