The war in Syria is like a bottomless pit or a gigantic landfill. Year after year, tragedies are piling up endlessly, and they seem to be going nowhere. We don’t mean to sound dire, but sadly, that is the reality of the situation. But who is suffocating the most under all this wreckage of despair? If you log into UNICEF’s website and look under the section entitled “Syrian Crisis”, you will find the answer. The caption reads as follows, “After eight years of conflict in Syria, children are paying the heaviest price.” This might not come as a surprise for some of you, as social media is always plastered with the faces of innocent children whose eyes are filled with hidden pain and suffering. Nevertheless, every cloud has a silver lining, which can only be found with a step in the right direction.
One of UNICEF’s newest initiatives, to help more than 5 million who are in need of urgent humanitarian aid, is the “Give Hope to Syrian Children”. It’s so simple that you can take part in this project right now. All you have to do is log into the UNICEF’s page via this link, submit an amount of money in AED that you can donate either once, or monthly, and then you will be taken to a secure payment page where you can “perform the transfer of your gift”. With whatever amount that you choose, the site tells you how it can help the lives of countless children in Syria. For example, 250 AED can save a child’s life by providing therapeutic food and treatment for severe acute malnutrition, or 100 AED can save a child’s life by providing them with the life-saving food they require to survive. So literally, a chance to save a child’s life is at your fingertips.
To get the message out there, UNICEF sought the help of Egyptian Actress Salma Abu Deif, UAE TV Presenter and Humanitarian Enjy Kiwan, Lebanese TV Presenter Raya Abirached, and singer Layla Kardan. Furthermore, volunteers with the UN will actively work to provide Syrian children with life-saving supplies including medicine, vaccines, healthcare, water, and food as well as provide psychological support and safe environments.
