Now that you finally made it to the weekend, here’s a glimpse of what Cairo is offering during the next couple of days. It should be enough to have you recharged and ready for another week:
Thursday begins with an Egyptian folk dance performance at New Cairo’s AUC Campus, courtesy of the university’s very own folk troupe, a Charles Aznavour tribute night at ROOM Art Space, where Moroccan songstress Sara Moullablad taking to the stage, while it’s a Mediterranean folk music night at Darb 1718 with Estabena in charge of the music.
KMT House hosts the screening of Hala Lotfy’s El Khoroug Lel Nahar, El Sawy Culturewheel sees El Mawlaweya El Masreya taking to River Hall’s stage for a Sufi night, while 3elbt Alwan welcomes Jamma to take to the stage for a round of covers by Fairouz, Ziad Rahbany, Sayed Darwish, and the likes.

Elsewhere, belly dancer Oxana shakes it to the beats served by DJ Tommy at 24K, DJ Lyon Avakian spins some pop tunes at The Tap East, DJ Mobbz takes to the decks at The Tap Maadi for a round of R&B and hip-hop tunes, while Cheeseballs, and Bakir are on the menu at The Tap West.
Friday see this year’s edition of Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival, AKA D-CAF, commencing with a round of shows across different spots in Downtown Cairo, including an interactive audiovisual projection called Bloom at La Viennoise Rooftop.
When it comes to music, The Sinatras cover some Frankie classics at Stage ElZamalek, while Janan play some pop/rock tunes at Darb 1718, before Karakeeb take over alongside Hossam Hosny for a round of contemporary Arabic tunes. Estabena is on the menu for the second time during the weekend, but this time at MASQ, where a D-CAF event is set to take place after; a sand-painting show called Quartzbox.
When the night grows older, Disco Masr and DJ Bakir take over the decks at Cairo Jazz Club for a night called Disco 7amra, DJ Soul, and DJ Feedo will drop some hip-hop and R&B beats at The Tap West, while MR. Arafa plays some house beats at The Tap East. Playing the same genre is DJ Fayek, but at The Tap Maadi.
Saturday brings more D-CAF events; a puppet theatre performance called Dust at Falaki Theater, and Radio Khiaban, a multimedia show by Iranian artist Saba Zavarei at La Viennoise Rooftop.
Meanwhile, Nour Khan takes to ROOM Art Space’s stage to acoustically cover songs by Evanescence, while Lebanese Farah Nakhoul takes over at Cairo Jazz Club for a round of contemporary Arabic tunes, and DJ Kashouty plays some pop tunes at The Tap East.
This night sees W.O.A Metal Battle taking place at Cairo Jazz Club 610, where a host of local bands compete on the stage, The Tap West’s jazz night hosts Spade of Hearts, while The Tap Maadi seals the weekend with a pop/rock night courtesy of Double Trouble.
