A lot of books make their way to the big screen, and while some are renowned as classics, others fail to garner the same success as the books. We’ve seen many examples of both sides, and every time we hear news of a book being turned into a movie, opinions divide between advocates and haters. This time, things may tip a bit to the side of support, as yet another best seller is set to become a movie.
Published in 36 languages around the world, The Woman in the Window (2018) is a thriller authored by A. J. Finn. The book has seen unimaginable success since its launch and has become the number one New York Times bestseller. A. J. Finn managed to write something so thrilling that Stephen King himself labelled it, “unputdownable”.
A part of the huge success that the book is seeing comes from the movie deal that it’s already got. The thriller novel was just published in January this year and has already got a deal from Fox 2000 Pictures, to be produced by Scott Rudin and Eli Bush. A. J. Finn’s debut novel is set to be directed by the amazing Joe Wright, a director who has been at the helm of movies such as Darkest Hour (2017). The English director has also tried out his trade in adapting novels into movies by way of directing Pride & Prejudice (2005), Anna Karenina (2012), and Atonement (2007). And who better to write the script than the 2008 Pulitzer Prize winner, Tracy Letts?
The novel is about Anna Fox, an agoraphobic New York City resident who is afraid to leave her home, and as such, spends her time drinking and watching old films. Anna grows bored and decides to add watching neighbours to her activities, till one day she sees a crime take place across the street, the only problem is, she’s not sure whether it was real or not. The thriller is set to star the Golden Globe winner and Academy Award nominee, Amy Adams. We’re quite excited to see how Adams will play this character, considering her stand out roles in Arrival, American Hustle, and many more amazing movies.
Do you think this is the right choice for such a successful novel? And what do you think of the writing, directing, and casting choices? Is it possible that Amy Adams can finally get her Oscar with this thriller? Well, all’s to be seen when the movie is released some time in 2019.
