From the Superman phone booth entrance, superhero statues and poster-covered walls, to the old school arcade, Batman-Joker mural and Kryptonite corner selling action figures and comic-books; Klash is every geek’s culinary dream.

It was a sad day for Cairo’s geek squad when Kryptonite closed down, but the owners of the comic-book and memorabilia shop have risen from the ashes to create an industrial decorated restaurant that still has the spirit of the departed store.

There’s also an arcade machine that features almost every old school game you could wish for – and, FYI, we registered a high-score on Marvel Vs Capcom. But we digress.

When it comes to food, the Point 90 restaurant’s menu is full of funny puns, like the Mushroom Manhunter Burger (a play on DC’s Martian Manhunter) and the pizzas, which are named after characters from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

It was a hell of a fun time, until the food arrived. Starting with the Spicy Knight Wings (45LE) from the appetisers section, the wings themselves were very dry, while the buffalo sauce was far from spicy and lacked that tanginess it promised. The blue cheese sauce that comes with the dish was watered down and on the bland side. Dick Grayson would be very disappointed.

Just like his student, the Dark Knight Burger (75LE) was another disappointment. We can get over the poor attempt of a bat-sign on the black bun, but we couldn’t look past the small, dry patty and scant amount of caramelised onions. The only real source of flavour was the BBQ sauce. We suspect the Joker and Harley Quinn sabotaged the burger.

After being disappointed by the DC-themed dishes, we were hoping for better with the Marvel ones; but, actually, the most disappointing dish of the day which goes to Tony Stark. The Stark Chicken (96LE) consisted of two breaded chicken pieces filled with cheese and smoked turkey, alongside mashed potatoes and sautéed veggies. The mashed potatoes were the very definition of bland and badly needed seasoning and creaminess, the chicken had no seasoning whatsoever, the filling was too little to notice, the presentation was very Aunt May – the old one not new young hottie played by Marisa Tomei from Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Deadpool’s Chimichanga (79LE) was the best of a bad bunch. That’s not saying much, though, because the dish consisted of chewy beef fajitas with basic and unremarkable flavours, all rolled in tortilla bread and covered with a bland cheese sauce. The side of rice was cooked well, thankfully, but this is definitely not a chimichanga because chimichangas are simply deep fried burritos.

We were hoping for redemption with dessert, but our first choices, May’s Apple Tart and Captain America’s WTF Pie, were unavailable – in fact the only thing available was the Molten Chocolate Cake so we just decided to avoid another disappointment and skipped dessert altogether.

It’s such a shame that the food was so disappointing, because Klash is one of the most unique concept restaurants to ever open in Egypt. We loved the venue, the menu and the fun, casual ambiance; but the food just didn’t match its awesomeness and it isn’t cheap.
