With Cairo still melting under the heat, nightlife is bidding August farewell with live non-stop music; where
Thursday sees funk, blues and disco band, Funk Off, kicking off the night over at Cairo Jazz Club, who will be followed on stage by with the ever-eversatile DJ Aly Goede. Meanwhile, DJ Tamer Auf returns to the Tap in Maadi his tracks, while DJs 3bkarino, Kiko and Bob see in the break of dawn at afterhours club, Bamboo.
Umm Sameh, Umm Hassan and Nour El Sabah of Mazaher – some of the few remaining Zar practitioners in Egypt, are performing at Makan with some rich polyrhythmic drumming inspired by Upper Egyptian, Sudanese and African Zar. Elsewhere, a 90s blast from the past night can be enjoyed with Alaa Abd Al Khalek at El Sawy Culturewheel.
On Friday,Tom Waits cover band, Raindogs, return to the Tap, while the Riff Band’s, Noha Fekry teams up with the brilliant Ramy Attallah for a special performance at Garden City's ROOM Art Space, while El Sawy Culturewheel hosts a night of nostalgic Arabic music with Zekrayaty.
The weekend wraps up with yet another musical night, where Saturday sees Osama El Hady and his band performing some fine rock, blues, jazz and oriental songs over at Cairo Jazz Club, followed by sensational brass band El Nafikha.
Sahel residents are in for a fun run with Nike+ Run’s third summer run at Haciendas Beach Resort; meanwhile, local post-rock band, Telepoetic, are performing at the Tap, Tunisian sensation, Ghalia Benali, takes to the stage her Indian-influenced music at El Sawy Culturewheel’s River Hall and old is always with Cavallini’s weekly Oldies night.
While you’re at it, you could pass by several art galleries in the city holding their summer exhibitions featuring works of renowned contemporary Egyptian artists, including Nile Art Gallery, Gallery Grant, Gezirah Art Center and Zamalek Art Gallery.
