It’s getting hotter and hotter Cairo, so
dust off your best flip-flops and shorts, because summer is coming early this
year! We’ve got the best events in Cairo to help you cool down and chill out to this weekend.

This Thursday, we have live music in the form of
Cairo favourites Sa7ra at After Eight and rockers Maqam at Bikya Book Café.
If you’re looking for great music to chill out to after a long week, then Sofia
Gabinus and Michelle Rounds will perform a double-bill at Cairo Jazz Club. Norwegian folk-jazz artist Arild Andersen will perform live at El Sawy
Culturewheel, while Tony Kaldas will sing Egyptian covers with a jazz flavour at El Genaina Theatre.

Start your Friday off with the CSA’s Party in the Park for a host of
activities at the   American Softball League Park in Maadi, or
an all-day Pool Party at Sakkara Oasis. Acclaimed French actor Gérard
Depardieu’s film ‘Danton’ will be screened at Darb 17 18 as part of the
World Revolution Film Series.

A new generation
of artists are ready to jump onto the scene; check out
AUC’s Sharjah Art Gallery with both the ‘Parallel’ Exhibition, and exhibition
by the ARTV 470 class. You should also check out Salah El Mur’s unique exhibition
at Mashrabia Gallery, which runs until May 31st.

If you fancy a drink and dance, newcomers Soopar
Lox will blow you away with their oriental house music at Cairo Jazz Club. Alternatively,
favourites Salalem will play their Egyptian funk-rock grooves at After Eight.

With sentiments of the revolution still riding
high, Saturday sees El Zohoor Magazine hosting ‘The Egyptian Woman
after the Revolution’ Seminar at El Sawy Culturewheel. Continuing the dictator/revolution
theme, the World Revolution Film Series at Darb 17 18 will screen
Oliver Stone’s outstanding
documentary ‘Commandante’; a unique look at Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

Australian artist Damon Kowarsky made an impression on our reviewer with his exhibition at Mashrabia Gallery, and is definitely
worth a visit this weekend before the end of its run on Tuesday. We all
have work the next day, but end your night on a high note at After Eight with
local band Fuego.
